As thick as thieves

Police didn't have to do much guesswork to identify a suspect in the armed robbery of an Athens, Ga., convenience store.

Authorities say 28-year-old Demetrius Robinson filled out a job application before wielding a knife and robbing the Golden Pantry store last week. He left his real name and his uncle's phone number on the sheet but diverted police for several days with a phony address.

Investigators say he filled out the application to kill time until the store emptied of customers.

I bet he wishes he did a Sudoko instead!

Many years ago I worked with unemployed teenagers who regularly got themselves in trouble with the law.

On one occasion two lads stole a charity collection box from the local post office when they went in to cash their giros. It took the police about 30 minutes to track them down.

I did my undergraduate degree in Athens, GA - home of the University of Georgia. Not everyone there was really University material...

Ah yes, home of REM, Pylon and Guadalcanal Diary too? I doubt Demetrius would have had a place on the nuclear physics degree!

This guy sounds as bright as one guy I wrote about who asked the business to call back when they had some money. He gave them his mobile phone and came back to meet up with cops who decided to come down and meet this clever clogs.
